Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta engaged with traders and business leaders on Thursday as part of a series of consultations leading up to the upcoming budget session in the Delhi Assembly. During the discussions, representatives from various industry organizations voiced concerns about the policies of the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, highlighting issues such as impractical regulations, infrastructure challenges, cleanliness, access to toilets, and pollution.
Addressing the press after the meeting, Rekha Gupta assured the business community that her government would take concrete steps to address these issues and provide a conducive environment for ease of doing business. She emphasized that industrial organizations play a crucial role in boosting Delhi’s revenue, and her administration would focus on meeting their needs to foster growth and development.
Rekha Gupta also reiterated her commitment to fulfilling the promises made by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during the Delhi Assembly elections, particularly regarding the business environment. She expressed her intent to work closely with industry leaders to understand their expectations and address their concerns effectively.
During the meeting, trader groups submitted several letters outlining their suggestions and demands for the upcoming budget. Rajesh Goyal, President of the Local Shopping Centre (LSCs) Federation of Delhi, proposed the creation of a collaborative platform for addressing market-related issues. He suggested the establishment of a board that would include representatives from various trade welfare associations, the MCD, DDA, Delhi Fire Service (DFS), and the Delhi police. This board would aim to resolve issues impacting the commercial market sector as a whole.
Sanjay Bhargava, President of the Chandni Chowk Sarv Vyapar Mandal, stressed the need for a budget allocation dedicated to a “Delhi Market Upgradation Mission.” He emphasized that enhancing the infrastructure of Delhi’s markets would attract more visitors, stimulate trade, and contribute to the city’s overall revenue generation. Bhargava also called for a larger portion of the budget to be allocated to the redevelopment of commercial and trade areas.
The discussions highlighted the shared commitment between the government and the business community to create a more vibrant and efficient commercial environment in Delhi. As the budget session approaches, both parties are hopeful that the proposed measures will contribute to the growth and prosperity of the capital’s economy.
