Residents of Delhi can expect relief from the scorching heat as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts light rain and dust storms for today. Meanwhile, Rajasthan continues to endure a severe heatwave, with temperatures soaring above 45°C in several regions.
Delhi Anticipates Rain and Dust Storms
The IMD predicts a partly cloudy sky over Delhi, transitioning to generally cloudy conditions by evening. Light rain or drizzle, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and dust storms, is expected. Surface winds may reach speeds of 40–50 km/h, with gusts up to 60 km/h.
On Friday, Delhi experienced a maximum temperature of 41°C, which is 4.2 degrees above normal, and a minimum temperature of 25.6°C. Rain and gusty winds provided some respite from the heat. Areas like Narela, Pitampura, and Mayur Vihar recorded 0.5 mm of rainfall. Temperatures in Pusa, Pitampura, and Mayur Vihar dropped from 36–37°C to 27°C. Humidity levels fluctuated between 57% and 35%. The air quality index (AQI) was recorded in the “poor” category at 219.
Rajasthan Faces Intense Heatwave
Rajasthan continues to experience extreme heat, with maximum temperatures exceeding 45°C in several areas. Sri Ganganagar and Churu recorded temperatures of 45.4°C, while Chittorgarh reached 45.2°C. Other regions like Vanasthali, Kota, Pilani, Barmer, Jaisalmer, Sangaria, and Fatehpur also reported temperatures ranging from 42.5°C to 45.1°C.
The IMD has issued alerts and guidelines for at least five districts to protect against the heatwave. Over the next 48 hours, parts of the Jodhpur and Bikaner divisions are likely to experience strong winds and dust storms at speeds of 30–40 km/h. Subsequently, a drop of 2 to 4 degrees in both maximum and minimum temperatures is expected, although heatwave conditions may persist in isolated areas of the Jodhpur, Bikaner, and Kota divisions.
