About ADMM and India’s Association:
The ADMM, revered as the pinnacle of defense consultative and cooperative mechanisms within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), plays an indispensable role in fostering peace and stability across the region. The ADMM-Plus, serving as an extended platform, brings together the ASEAN member states – Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam – alongside its eight esteemed Dialogue Partners. This distinguished group includes India, the United States, China, Russia, Japan, South Korea, Australia, and New Zealand.
Moreover, the ADMM-Plus, known for its pragmatic approach, advances cooperation through seven Experts Working Groups (EWGs). These EWGs address a diverse range of critical security issues, including Maritime Security, Military Medicine, Cyber Security, Peacekeeping Operations, Counter-Terrorism, Humanitarian Mine Action, and Humanitarian Assistance & Disaster Relief (HADR).
In the current cycle spanning from 2021 to 2024, India is actively co-chairing the EWG on HADR alongside Indonesia. This collaboration underscores India’s unwavering commitment to fortify disaster response and relief efforts within the region.
Furthermore, the upcoming 10th ADMM-Plus meeting will witness the announcement of the next set of co-chairs for the cycle spanning 2024 to 2027. This underscores the steadfast commitment of participating nations to regional security and defense cooperation.
