A serious hygiene issue has emerged at the Hyatt Ahmedabad, a five-star hotel in the city’s Vastrapur area, where a guest discovered a dead cockroach in the sambar served during a function on Wednesday morning. The incident has led to immediate action by the local authorities.
The discovery was made by a guest who, upon finding the cockroach in their sambar, documented the issue on video and submitted a formal complaint to the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) through their online portal. The complaint triggered an urgent inspection by the AMC’s Food Department.
Bhavin Joshi, a designated officer of the AMC’s Food Department, confirmed the findings during the inspection. Joshi reported that the ‘Indian Kitchen’ section of the hotel, where the sambar was prepared, was found to be in an unhygienic state. This led to the decision to seal the kitchen for a period of 48 hours to address the cleanliness issues and ensure public health safety.
A ‘closure notice’ was prominently displayed on the kitchen door, informing that the cooking area would remain closed for the specified duration. The notice also warned that legal action would be taken if the kitchen was reopened without proper authorization from the AMC. The closure is part of the AMC’s efforts to prevent any further health risks associated with the reported unhygienic conditions.
The hotel management has been advised to undertake thorough cleaning and sanitation processes before the kitchen can be reopened. This incident highlights the ongoing need for stringent hygiene practices in the hospitality industry to ensure the safety and well-being of guests.
