The Congress office in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh, was subjected to an attack late Sunday night, with unidentified miscreants vandalizing numerous parked vehicles before fleeing the scene. Police swiftly responded to the incident, launching an investigation and registering a case against unknown individuals based on a filed complaint.
Congress representatives swiftly pointed fingers at what they termed “BJP goons,” attributing the attack to political motives amid the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. Sharing a video depicting the aftermath of the vandalism, the party accused the BJP of resorting to violence due to apprehensions of electoral defeat in Amethi, specifically mentioning BJP candidate Smriti Irani.
Congress leader Supriya Shrinate condemned the incident, denouncing it as an act of “hooliganism” perpetrated by BJP workers. The attack occurred just hours before Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, a senior Congress leader, was set to lead the Lok Sabha poll campaign in Raebareli and Amethi.
The incident unfolded amidst heightened anticipation surrounding the Congress’s candidate announcements for the region, eventually confirming Rahul Gandhi for Raebareli and Kishori Lal Sharma for Amethi. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s presence in Raebareli and Amethi from today onwards underscores the party’s strategic focus on the constituencies, which are considered Congress strongholds.
Both Raebareli and Amethi are slated for polling in the fifth round of the seven-phase Lok Sabha elections on May 20.
