Strengthening Bilateral Ties Through Food Safety

The Agreement, poised to be a game-changer, aims at fostering collaboration between Bhutan Food and Drug Authority (BFDA) and the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). With a keen focus on ensuring the safety and quality of food products traded between the two countries, this pact holds immense strategic importance.

Facilitating Trade and Ensuring Compliance

One of the primary objectives of this agreement is to facilitate seamless trade between India and Bhutan by ensuring compliance with the stringent food safety standards set forth by the FSSAI. By adhering to these standards, both nations aim to enhance consumer confidence in the safety and quality of food products crossing their borders.

Streamlining Export Processes

Under the terms of the agreement, the Bhutan Food and Drug Authority (BFDA) will be responsible for issuing Health Certificates for products exported to India. These certificates serve as a testament to the compliance of Bhutanese food products with the rigorous standards prescribed by the FSSAI. This streamlined export process is expected to promote Ease of Doing Business and reduce compliance costs for businesses on both sides.

Promoting Economic Growth and Public Health

By fostering cooperation in the critical area of food safety, this agreement holds the potential to stimulate economic growth and promote public health in both India and Bhutan. By ensuring that only safe and high-quality food products enter their markets, both nations are taking proactive steps to safeguard the well-being of their citizens while fostering a conducive environment for trade and commerce.

A Step Towards Closer Collaboration

The signing of this Agreement marks a significant step towards closer collaboration between India and Bhutan in the vital domain of food safety. By laying down a robust framework for cooperation, both nations are poised to strengthen their bilateral ties while advancing their shared goals of promoting food security, public health, and economic prosperity.
