Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, 78, has canceled his planned trip to Russia for the BRICS summit after sustaining a minor brain hemorrhage following a fall at his home. On medical advice, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva will now participate in the summit via videoconference. The president had been scheduled to depart on Sunday afternoon for the event.
Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva ‘s physician, Roberto Kalil, explained that the president suffered a significant trauma to the back of his head, which required stitches and resulted in a small brain hemorrhage in the temporal-frontal region. Although the president is reportedly in good condition and able to perform normal activities, Kalil emphasized the need for continued observation and follow-up tests, as any brain hemorrhage could theoretically worsen in the days following the injury.
A medical report from Sirio Libanes Hospital in Brasilia confirmed that Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva suffered a laceration to the occipital region at the back of his head. The report advised the president to avoid long-distance travel but noted that he could continue his usual duties.
