  • Border 2 sustains third-weekend surge, crosses ₹440 crore worldwide
  • Sunny Deol starrer surpasses Sultan, dominates 2026 box office

Sunny Deol’s multistarrer Border 2 continues its strong theatrical run well into its third weekend, reinforcing its position as the most commercially successful Hindi film of 2026 so far. Defying the usual post-fortnight slowdown, the film recorded a noticeable jump in collections on Day 16, underlining sustained audience interest and strong word-of-mouth across mass and multiplex circuits alike.

Sustained Third-Weekend Growth Signals Exceptional Audience Retention

After completing two weeks in cinemas, Border 2 demonstrated uncommon box office resilience by posting higher numbers on the third Saturday. The film earned ₹4.25 crore on Day 16, a sharp rise from ₹2.85 crore collected the previous day, indicating renewed weekend footfall rather than gradual attrition. This performance highlights the film’s appeal beyond opening-week hype, a factor critical to long-term commercial success.

With this addition, Border 2’s total domestic net collection has reached approximately ₹385.58 crore, placing it firmly among the top-grossing Hindi films in Indian box office history. The film’s overseas performance has also remained consistent, contributing ₹54 crore in 16 days and taking the worldwide gross to ₹440 crore. This global figure has allowed the film to surpass several established blockbusters, underscoring its cross-border resonance.

The film’s longevity is particularly notable given the competitive release calendar and the growing fragmentation of audience attention across streaming platforms. Border 2’s ability to sustain momentum suggests that its patriotic theme, ensemble cast, and large-scale storytelling have connected deeply with core theatrical audiences, especially in single-screen and tier-two markets.

Records Broken, 2026 Dominance, and Emerging Competitive Pressures

In terms of Indian box office benchmarks, Border 2 has already eclipsed several landmark titles. With domestic earnings crossing ₹358 crore, the film has moved past the lifetime collections of Saiyara, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, and Sultan, positioning itself as the 13th highest-grossing film in India to date. Surpassing Salman Khan’s Sultan is particularly significant, given the latter’s long-standing status as a mass-market juggernaut.

On a global scale, Border 2 has emerged as the biggest film of 2026 so far, with no close competitor threatening its lead at present. Films released subsequently this year have struggled to gain comparable traction. Mardaani 3, despite strong pre-release expectations and franchise recognition, managed only ₹32 crore worldwide, while Dharmendra’s Ikkees failed to register meaningful box office impact.

However, the coming weeks may test Border 2’s uninterrupted run. The upcoming release of Shahid Kapoor and Triptii Dimri’s O Romeo on February 13 is expected to alter audience distribution, particularly in urban centres and multiplex chains. With strong pre-release buzz and aggressive promotion, the new release could divert footfall and slow Border 2’s daily earnings, especially during weekdays.

Even so, Border 2’s current financial standing provides a substantial cushion. Having already established itself as a defining commercial success of the year, any gradual decline would likely occur after its core objectives have been achieved. Its performance has recalibrated expectations for post-pandemic box office longevity and reinforced the viability of large-scale, theatrically driven cinema in an increasingly digital ecosystem.
