In a tense development that triggered swift security measures in Mumbai, the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) received an email on Tuesday morning claiming that four RDX IED bombs had been planted in its tower and were set to explode at 3 PM. The email, sent from an ID under the name “Comrade Pinarayi Vijayan,” prompted an immediate response from BSE officials, who alerted the Mumbai Police and initiated an evacuation and inspection of the building to ensure the safety of employees and visitors.
Immediate Police Response and Building Inspection
Following the threat, bomb disposal squads and local police units quickly arrived at the BSE premises and conducted a thorough search of the building. The teams worked systematically, sweeping each floor and checking all suspicious items to ensure no explosive devices were present in the building. After the inspection, the Mumbai Police confirmed that nothing suspicious was found within the BSE premises, reassuring the public and stakeholders of their safety while maintaining heightened vigilance around the area.
In a statement cited by the news agency ANI, the Mumbai Police said, “Nothing suspicious was found,” bringing temporary relief to the staff and investors who frequent the BSE, one of India’s major financial hubs.
Case Registered and Ongoing Investigation
A case has been registered against an unidentified individual at the Mata Ramabai Ambedkar Marg Police Station under sections 351(1)(b), 353(2), 351(3), and 351(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and further investigation is underway to trace the origin and intent behind the email threat. The cybercrime cell and other investigating agencies have been roped in to track down the sender of the threatening email and determine whether the threat was a hoax or part of a larger disruptive plan.
The incident comes a day after the Golden Temple in Amritsar received a bomb threat via email, prompting the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) to lodge a police complaint and enhance security around the temple complex. Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar confirmed that they received the complaint and have engaged state cybercrime and other investigative agencies to trace the source of the threat, while assuring that all necessary security measures are being enforced around the iconic religious site.
These back-to-back threats targeting significant public and financial institutions have prompted authorities to remain on high alert, with cybercrime experts working in coordination with local police units to track digital trails and ensure public safety across sensitive locations in the country.
