In an incident at the Military Academy of the Signal Corps in St. Petersburg, seven soldiers were injured when a World War II-era munition exploded, according to Russia’s Leningrad Military District.
The explosion occurred during a cleaning operation in one of the basement premises, as individuals were unloading garbage into a container, reported the district’s press office, cited by Xinhua news agency.
The press office stated that a 76-millimeter World War II-era munition detonated unexpectedly, resulting in injuries to the soldiers. The wounded have been transported to the Defense Ministry’s health facility for treatment.
St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov has refuted claims that the incident was terrorist-related, providing assurance amid concerns following the blast.
