The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has maintained its stronghold in the Lok Sabha elections across the national capital and four satellite cities in Delhi NCR, including Haryana’s Faridabad and Gurugram, and Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad and Gautam Buddha Nagar. However, analysis of official data reveals a trend of reduced victory margins for the BJP in the 2024 elections compared to 2019.
Gautam Buddha Nagar stands as the only constituency where the BJP’s winning margin, whether by a sitting MP or a newcomer, has increased in 2024 compared to 2019, according to data from the Election Commission of India. Notably, the victory margins across all 11 seats have hit their lowest points since 2014, except for North West Delhi, South Delhi, and Gautam Buddha Nagar.
In Faridabad, Gurugram, Gautam Buddha Nagar, and North East Delhi, the incumbents have remained unchanged over the years. However, the BJP’s vote share has only increased in four seats out of the 11, namely Gautam Buddha Nagar, North East Delhi, North West Delhi, and South Delhi.
Rao Inderjit Singh’s victory in Gurugram marks his fourth consecutive win. Yet, his victory margin witnessed a significant drop compared to 2019, signaling a tough competition from Congress candidate Raj Babbar. In Faridabad, Krishan Pal Gurjar secured his third consecutive win for the BJP, albeit with a reduced victory margin compared to 2019.
The BJP’s dominance extends to Ghaziabad, where it has clinched victory since 2009. This time, Atul Garg emerged victorious, albeit with a decreased victory margin compared to his predecessor General Vijay Kumar Singh in 2019.
Despite these reduced margins, the BJP’s hold remains firm across the Delhi NCR region, indicating the party’s continued electoral dominance in the area.
