Dasho Tshering Tobgay, the Prime Minister of Bhutan, paid a visit to the Rashtrapati Bhavan today, where he called on the President Droupadi Murmu.Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay is currently on his inaugural overseas visit since assuming office in February 2024.
Welcoming Prime Minister Tobgay to India, President Murmu expressed her appreciation for selecting India as his first destination abroad following his assumption of office. She emphasized the close and unique relationship between India and Bhutan, characterized by mutual trust, goodwill, and understanding across all levels. Highlighting the shared spiritual heritage of Buddhism, President Murmu underscored the profound cultural ties that bind the two countries.
President Murmu reiterated India’s commitment to its multifaceted partnership with Bhutan, spanning various sectors such as energy cooperation, development partnership, people-to-people relations, and trade and investment linkages. She assured Prime Minister Tobgay that Bhutan could count on India as a reliable friend and partner in its developmental journey.
Emphasizing India’s unwavering support for Bhutan’s socio-economic progress, President Murmu underscored the importance of India’s development cooperation, guided by Bhutan’s priorities and aspirations, particularly those of the youth.
Before his meeting with President Murmu, Prime Minister Tobgay held discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi yesterday. Their meeting focused on various aspects of bilateral cooperation, including infrastructure development, connectivity, energy, hydropower cooperation, and people-to-people exchanges.
