  • Bhavesh Shekhawat triumphs over Anish Bhanwala in RFP.
  • Simranpreet Kaur Brar outperforms Olympian Manu Bhaker in women's pistol.

At the esteemed Dr. Karni Singh Shooting ranges in New Delhi, the inaugural Olympic Selection Trials (OST) for Rifle and Pistol disciplines are currently underway, witnessing the emergence of new champions. Bhavesh Shekhawat and Simranpreet Kaur Brar have showcased exceptional prowess by clinching victories in the 25M men’s rapid-fire pistol (RFP) and women’s pistol OST T2 trials, respectively.

Bhavesh Shekhawat demonstrated remarkable skill, securing a score of 34 in the RFP final, effectively outperforming OST T1 winner Anish Bhanwala, who attained 29 hits. Vijayveer Sidhu secured third place with 22 hits, while Adarsh Singh and Ankur Goel finished fourth and fifth, narrowly missing podium positions.

Reflecting on his performance, Bhavesh Shekhawat expressed a determination to enhance his skills for future trials, acknowledging room for improvement compared to Olympic standards. He attributed his journey to the inspiration drawn from renowned shooter Abhinav Bindra, revealing a decade-long dedication to the sport since.

With competitors closely matched in scores, anticipation builds for the subsequent trials scheduled in Bhopal next month. Notably, Anish and Vijayveer hold two bonus points each for securing Olympic quotas, adding an intriguing dimension to the upcoming rounds.

In the women’s pistol category, Simranpreet Kaur Brar displayed exceptional form, securing victory with 37 hits in the 10-series event. Her stellar performance surpassed that of OST T1 winner and Olympian Manu Bhaker, who concluded with 35 hits. Esha Singh claimed third place with 30 hits, while Rhythm Sangwan and Abhidnya Patil secured fourth and fifth positions, respectively.

The triumph of Bhavesh Shekhawat and Simranpreet Kaur Brar underscores the depth of talent and dedication within India’s shooting fraternity. Their achievements in the OST serve as a testament to their skill and perseverance, setting a promising trajectory for Indian shooters on the path to Olympic glory.
