Election Preparations: Tear Gas Shells and Political Tensions in Bangladesh

According to the prominent newspaper in Bangladesh, Dhaka Tribune, the opposition has become active against the ruling Awami League government. Procuring tear gas shells is a part of preparation for the elections. The situation during the elections could be like 2013-15. The government is making all efforts to prevent the situation from deteriorating.

Demanding Justice: Protests for the Release of Khalida Zia

Several political parties have started demonstrations against Sheikh Hasina-led government. They are demanding Hasina’s resignation and appointment of a caretaker government. The other major demands include the release of Bangladesh Nationalist Party leader Khalida Zia and the withdrawal of all cases against BNP leaders. More than 1,35,000 legal cases have been filed against about 4.5 million BNP workers.

The government suspects violence and disturbances during the demonstrations.

Stay Alert Instructions from Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Khandkar Gulam Farukh issued instructions to the police force to remain alert. He also sought information about the arms available to the police.
