In a landmark achievement for Indian rowing, Balraj Panwar has secured the nation’s first quota for the Paris Olympics in the men’s single scull event. This feat was accomplished at the Asian Olympic qualifiers held in Chungju, South Korea.
Balraj Panwar’s remarkable performance saw him clinch third place in the 2000m race, with a time of 7:01:27. This achievement guarantees him a coveted spot at the 2024 Paris Olympics, marking a significant milestone for Indian rowing on the global stage.
The top five finishers in the men’s single sculls event secure qualification for the Olympics, making Balraj Panwar’s accomplishment all the more noteworthy. Notably, India had previously missed out on qualification for the men’s lightweight double sculls at the Tokyo Olympics.
