Backpack, the burgeoning crypto exchange founded by former executives from FTX and Alameda, has announced the appointment of Oliver Sleafer as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
Sleafer, who previously served as the head of treasury at Backpack since October, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. Prior to joining Backpack, he held prominent positions at renowned institutions such as Stripe, where he served as the head of liquidity management for the Asia-Pacific region, and Credit Suisse, where he spent five years in a similar capacity.
The appointment of Sleafer as CFO underscores Backpack’s commitment to bolstering its leadership team with top-tier talent as it navigates the competitive landscape of the crypto industry.
Founded by Armani Ferrante and Trian Yver, both distinguished alumni of Alameda Research and FTX, Backpack has rapidly emerged as a formidable player in the crypto exchange space.
Significantly, the genesis of Backpack traces back to the strategic vision of Ferrante and Yver, who recognized the opportunity to fill the void left by the collapse of FTX and Alameda Research in late 2022. Despite the setback, Backpack remained resilient, fueled by the unwavering determination of its founders to forge ahead and establish a robust crypto exchange platform.
Further, in a testament to its growing prominence, Backpack recently secured $17 million in Series A funding at an impressive $120 million valuation. This significant capital infusion underscores investor confidence in Backpack’s vision and strategic trajectory.
