Security forces foiled an infiltration attempt in the Uri sector, killing a terrorist, while an Indian Army JCO was martyred during an operation in Poonch.
Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir successfully foiled another infiltration attempt near the Line of Control in the Uri sector of Baramulla district. During Operation DIGGI-2, a joint team of the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police neutralized a terrorist who attempted to cross into Indian territory. According to officials, the operation began after troops detected suspicious movement near the LoC. Surveillance teams monitoring the border noticed an individual attempting to infiltrate into the Buchar area during the night of March 14-15. When security forces challenged the infiltrator, he opened fire on the troops. The soldiers immediately retaliated and eliminated the terrorist during the encounter. Weapons including an AK rifle, a pistol, and ammunition were recovered from the site. Officials confirmed that search operations are still ongoing in the surrounding area to ensure that no other militants are hiding nearby.

The Uri sector is considered one of the most sensitive areas along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir. The region is characterized by dense forests, rugged mountains, and challenging terrain, making it a preferred route for infiltration attempts by militants. Soldier martyred during operation in Poonch district
While the infiltration attempt was foiled in Uri, a separate incident occurred in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir where an Indian Army officer lost his life during a military operation. The White Knight Corps confirmed that the martyred soldier was Subedar Sandeep Kumar Dhaka, a Junior Commissioned Officer serving in the Surankote area. According to the army, the incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. during Operation Sherikalan when the officer slipped and fell while performing his duties in the difficult mountainous terrain. He was immediately rushed to a military hospital in Potha for treatment. Despite the best efforts of doctors, the officer could not be saved. The Indian Army paid tribute to Subedar Dhaka, describing him as a brave and dedicated soldier who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving the nation.
Second infiltration attempt foiled within a week
Security forces have foiled two infiltration attempts along the Line of Control within a week. Earlier on March 10, another infiltration attempt was detected in the Nowshera sector of Jammu and Kashmir. Acting on intelligence inputs, security forces launched a search operation after suspicious movement of two terrorists was observed near the LoC in the Jhangar area. During the operation, troops engaged the militants in an encounter and killed one of them. The search for the second suspect continued as security forces combed the surrounding areas. Officials say that infiltration attempts from across the border continue to occur, but heightened surveillance and rapid response have helped prevent militants from entering Indian territory.
Major counter-terror operations conducted in 2026
The Indian Army has been carrying out several major counter-terrorism operations across Jammu and Kashmir during 2026. One such operation was Operation Trashi, launched in January in the forests of the Chatru belt. The operation involved multiple encounters with militants hiding in the area, eventually leading to the elimination of three terrorists. Another significant mission, Operation KIYA, was conducted in February by the White Knight Corps along with Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF in the Jofar forest region of Basantgarh. During the operation, security forces used Under Barrel Grenade Launchers against militants hiding inside a cave. The explosion partially destroyed the cave structure and resulted in the death of two terrorists.
Suspect arrested near India-Pakistan border in Punjab
In a separate development, the Border Security Force arrested a suspicious youth near the India-Pakistan border in Ferozepur, Punjab. The incident occurred during routine patrol operations when BSF personnel noticed two individuals riding motorcycles near the border village of Kamalwala. When the soldiers signaled them to stop, the suspects attempted to flee. One of them was apprehended while the other managed to escape. The arrested suspect identified himself as Gurmeet Singh, a resident of Chak Kannia village in Moga district. Authorities have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident.
