A medical board, convened by a Delhi court, has advised Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to maintain his current insulin dosage while incarcerated at Tihar Jail. The recommendation came after a video conference consultation conducted by a team of five doctors from AIIMS, along with two medical professionals from Tihar Jail, on Saturday.
According to sources within Tihar Jail, no alterations have been made to Kejriwal’s prescribed medications, and he is reported to be in “completely healthy” condition. The decision to continue with the two-unit insulin dose was made following an initial dosage administered when Kejriwal’s blood sugar level rose to 320 earlier in the week.
This development follows a previous plea by Kejriwal, which was rejected by the Delhi court, seeking daily consultations with his doctor via video conferencing. Instead, the court directed the formation of a medical board from AIIMS to assess whether the AAP leader, who has Type 2 diabetes, required insulin treatment.
In addition to the medical recommendations, the court allowed Kejriwal to receive home-cooked meals, provided they adhere strictly to the dietary guidelines outlined by his doctor. This decision was made in response to allegations from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) that Kejriwal was intentionally consuming foods like mangoes, aloo puri, and sweets to elevate his blood sugar levels, potentially as a strategy for seeking medical bail.
Amidst concerns raised by the AAP regarding a perceived conspiracy to harm Kejriwal by withholding necessary medical treatment, the Chief Minister has been in custody since March 21, following his arrest in connection with a money laundering case related to the Delhi excise policy.
As the legal proceedings continue, the health and well-being of Arvind Kejriwal remain under close scrutiny, with ongoing medical assessments conducted by experts from AIIMS.
