  • New rules ease ration card process for newlywed couples.
  • Andhra Pradesh removes marriage certificate for ration card application.

The Andhra Pradesh government has introduced a significant change to ease the process of obtaining ration cards for newly married couples. Now, applicants can apply for new ration cards without submitting a formal marriage certificate, a requirement that previously caused delays and difficulties. This new rule is expected to speed up access to essential government benefits, including subsidized food supplies, for thousands of families across the state.

Easier Application Process Without Marriage Certificate

In the past, newlyweds seeking a ration card had to provide a marriage certificate as proof, which led to many complaints and obstacles. Chittoor District’s Civil Supplies Department Officer, Sankaran, highlighted that this requirement was creating bottlenecks, resulting in a backlog of applications. Responding to these issues, the government has now relaxed the rule. Applicants can submit any valid proof of marriage instead of the official certificate, or in some cases, no specific proof is mandatory. This adjustment is aimed at simplifying the documentation process, thereby encouraging more eligible people to register and benefit from welfare schemes.

Ration Cards: A Vital Document for Subsidies and Benefits

A ration card is crucial for families seeking access to various government subsidies and welfare programs, including free or affordable essentials like rice, sugar, and pulses. It functions similarly to Aadhaar as a key identification document for availing these services. Over the past ten days alone, Chittoor district witnessed a surge in applications—about 13,550 requests came in, including new ration cards, adding family members to existing cards, and dividing cards to accommodate individual members. This indicates a growing awareness and need for ration cards among the population.

With the removal of the marriage certificate requirement, newlywed couples no longer face unnecessary delays and can more easily register for ration cards. The state government’s move aims to streamline the entire process, ensuring timely delivery of benefits and reducing administrative hurdles for citizens. This change not only supports families in securing their basic needs but also strengthens the efficiency of public welfare distribution in Andhra Pradesh.
