Union Home Minister Amit Shah, amid the commencement of the Great Indian Election’s first phase, reiterated BJP’s unwavering stance on caste-based reservation, affirming that the policy will remain untouched under their governance. Shah, who filed his nomination from Gujarat’s Gandhinagar seat for the May 7 polls, emphasized that BJP has no intentions to alter the Constitution in regards to reservation.
In an interview Shah expressed confidence in BJP’s electoral prospects in southern India, citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rising popularity in the region. He highlighted BJP’s growing vote-share in southern states during past elections and expressed optimism about winning seats this time.
Responding to allegations of BJP’s alleged intentions to amend the Constitution, Shah dismissed them, asserting BJP’s commitment to reservation for Dalits, tribals, and backward classes. He contrasted BJP’s governance, which focused on empowering marginalized communities, with Congress’s history of misusing its majority, notably during the Emergency era.
Addressing concerns over Electronic Voting Machines and electoral bonds, Shah countered opposition accusations, stating that their parties also received donations through bonds. He challenged Rahul Gandhi to clarify their stance on the issue and emphasized BJP’s corruption-free track record.
On the government’s stance against left-wing extremism, Shah reiterated BJP’s commitment to combating terrorism and Naxalism through democratic means, welcoming those willing to lay down arms while affirming the security forces’ readiness to respond to threats.
Overall, Shah’s remarks underscored BJP’s electoral strategy and commitment to key policy agendas while rebutting opposition allegations and emphasizing governance achievements.
