In a significant stride towards fostering diversity and inclusion in the tech industry, Amazon India has announced scholarships for 500 female students under the Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship Program in India. This initiative aims to provide financial support and mentorship to aspiring women in computer science and related fields, nurturing future leaders in technology.
Selected students will receive a scholarship of Rs 50,000 per year throughout the duration of their courses, facilitating their pursuit of education in computer science or related disciplines. Additionally, scholars will benefit from mentorship by Amazon employees and personalized coding boot camps, equipping them with essential skills for successful careers in the tech sector.
To ensure seamless participation in educational activities, scholars will also be provided with personal laptops, facilitating engagement in boot camps, webinars, and other program components. This comprehensive support system underscores Amazon’s commitment to empowering women in technology and bridging the gender gap in STEM fields.
The Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship Program, launched in 2022, has already made a significant impact on the lives of aspiring female technologists. The first cohort of scholars, comprising 200 meritorious students from diverse backgrounds, received financial assistance, mentorship, and access to tech boot camps. Many of these scholars hailed from families engaged in agriculture or manual labor, highlighting the program’s inclusive approach towards first-generation learners.
Building upon the success of the inaugural cohort, the program expanded in 2022, providing increased funding scholarships and additional opportunities for professional development. Notably, scholars from the first cohort were offered paid tech internships at Amazon, further enhancing their practical skills and industry exposure.
