  • Welcome To The Jungle cancels Dubai shoot due to ongoing geopolitical tensions

Bollywood’s big-budget productions are increasingly feeling the impact of global geopolitical tensions, with Akshay Kumar’s upcoming film Welcome To The Jungle becoming the latest casualty. The makers have officially cancelled a planned Dubai song shoot due to the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, opting instead to recreate the sequence on elaborate sets in Mumbai.

This development comes shortly after a similar disruption reportedly affected Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming film King, indicating a broader impact of geopolitical instability on international film schedules. With overseas shoots becoming increasingly uncertain, filmmakers are being forced to rethink production strategies to ensure timelines remain intact.

The decision to cancel the Dubai schedule was not taken lightly. Director Ahmed Khan and the production team had reportedly waited for nearly a month, hoping that conditions in the region would stabilise. However, as the situation remained volatile, the team decided to shift the shoot entirely to India to avoid further delays and logistical complications.

The Dubai schedule was originally planned as a grand visual spectacle, featuring a high-energy song sequence with the film’s massive ensemble cast. Dubai was chosen for its luxurious skyline and vibrant nightlife, which perfectly aligned with the film’s extravagant tone. However, with travel uncertainties and safety concerns rising, continuing with the international shoot became impractical.

Instead, the filmmakers are now investing heavily in creating large-scale sets across Mumbai to replicate the opulence originally envisioned for the Dubai sequence. These sets are being constructed at prominent filming locations such as Madh Island, Golden Tobacco Studio, and Film City, transforming them into lavish backdrops featuring nightclubs, casinos, and even private jet interiors.

Production designer Sailesh Mhadik is leading the design and execution of these sets, ensuring that the visual appeal of the sequence is not compromised despite the change in location. The team aims to match, and possibly even surpass, the grandeur that would have been achieved in Dubai through meticulous set design and advanced production techniques.

The song shoot is scheduled to commence on April 15, giving the team a tight window to complete preparations. Given the scale of the production and the number of actors involved, coordinating schedules and logistics will be a significant challenge. However, the shift to Mumbai is expected to streamline operations by reducing travel-related uncertainties.

Welcome To The Jungle boasts one of the largest ensemble casts in recent Bollywood history. Alongside Akshay Kumar, the film features prominent actors such as Suniel Shetty, Jackie Shroff, Raveena Tandon, Disha Patani, Jacqueline Fernandez, Arshad Warsi, Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Johnny Lever, Lara Dutta, Shreyas Talpade, Tusshar Kapoor, Krushna Abhishek, Kiku Sharda, and Urvashi Rautela, among others.

The presence of such a large cast adds to the complexity of production, particularly when dealing with changes in shooting locations and schedules. Coordinating multiple actors, managing set construction, and ensuring continuity are all critical factors that the production team must handle efficiently.

The film has already faced several challenges during its production journey. Reports suggest that issues such as health concerns involving actor Shreyas Talpade, changes in casting, and logistical hurdles have caused delays in the past. Actor Sanjay Dutt, who was initially associated with the project, reportedly opted out due to script changes, adding another layer of complexity to the film’s development.

Despite these setbacks, director Ahmed Khan has maintained that the project remains on track and is progressing as planned. The decision to shift the Dubai shoot to Mumbai is part of a broader effort to ensure that the film meets its deadlines without compromising on quality.

The geopolitical tensions affecting the film’s production highlight a growing challenge for the global entertainment industry. As conflicts and uncertainties increase in various parts of the world, international shoots are becoming riskier and more difficult to manage. This has prompted filmmakers to explore alternative approaches, including increased reliance on domestic locations and advanced set design.

For Bollywood, which has long relied on international locations to enhance visual appeal and attract audiences, this shift represents a significant change. While countries like the UAE have traditionally been popular shooting destinations due to their infrastructure and scenic appeal, current circumstances are forcing filmmakers to adapt quickly.

At the same time, the move to recreate international settings within India could provide a boost to local production capabilities. Investments in set design, technology, and creative execution are likely to increase, potentially strengthening the domestic film industry’s ability to deliver world-class visuals.

Welcome To The Jungle is the third instalment in the popular Welcome franchise, which has enjoyed significant success over the years. Known for its comedic storytelling, memorable characters, and star-studded casts, the franchise has built a loyal fan base. The upcoming film aims to build on this legacy while introducing a larger scale and more ambitious production.

Interestingly, the film does not feature some of the original franchise’s iconic characters, including those played by Nana Patekar and Anil Kapoor. However, the addition of a new ensemble cast and fresh storyline elements is expected to bring a different flavour to the franchise.

The film is presented by AA Nadiadwala and Star Studios and is produced under Base Industries Group and Seeta Films. With shooting already wrapped up in December last year, the remaining work primarily involves song sequences and post-production.

The film is currently slated for release on June 26, 2026, and expectations are high given the scale of the project and the popularity of the franchise. The success of the film will depend not only on its star power but also on how effectively it delivers entertainment value and meets audience expectations.

The cancellation of the Dubai shoot also reflects the broader impact of global events on creative industries. From travel restrictions to safety concerns, filmmakers must constantly adapt to changing circumstances while ensuring that their projects remain viable.

For Akshay Kumar, one of Bollywood’s most prolific actors, the project represents another major release in an already packed schedule. Known for his versatility and consistent box office presence, Kumar’s involvement adds significant commercial value to the film.

Similarly, the ensemble cast brings together a mix of experienced actors and newer faces, creating a dynamic on-screen combination. This diversity is expected to contribute to the film’s appeal across different audience segments.

As production moves forward, the focus will remain on delivering a visually impressive and entertaining film despite the challenges faced during its development. The shift from Dubai to Mumbai may have altered the production plan, but it also presents an opportunity to showcase creativity and innovation.

In conclusion, the cancellation of the Dubai shoot for Welcome To The Jungle underscores the growing influence of global geopolitical factors on the entertainment industry. While the decision may have posed initial challenges, the production team’s swift adaptation highlights the resilience and flexibility required in modern filmmaking.

As the film gears up for its release, all eyes will be on how effectively it translates its ambitious vision onto the screen. With a strong cast, experienced crew, and renewed focus on production, Welcome To The Jungle remains one of the most anticipated Bollywood releases of 2026.
