Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has made a significant statement regarding the recent violence in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, following a controversial mosque survey. Yadav expressed concerns about the political implications of the incident and strongly criticized the manner in which local authorities handled the situation, alleging that they were acting in a way that reflected the interests of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He pointed out that since the beginning of the current parliamentary session, the Samajwadi Party had been attempting to raise the issue of the Sambhal violence but was unable to do so in the session. However, he reaffirmed that the party’s demand to address the matter in Parliament remains unchanged.
Yadav claimed that the Sambhal incident was a part of the BJP’s deliberate strategy to divert public attention from other critical issues. He warned that those trying to “dig” and stir unrest could ultimately destroy the country’s harmony and brotherhood. He emphasized the importance of unity and mutual respect among citizens, highlighting that the ongoing divisive actions could have a severe impact on national peace.
On the Bangladesh issue, Akhilesh Yadav also expressed his concerns, stating that the Indian government must act responsibly in addressing the matter. He criticized the government’s failure to respect the sentiments of India’s religious leaders, suggesting that a government that disrespects its saints cannot claim to be strong.
In addition, Samajwadi Party MP Ram Gopal Yadav joined the criticism, accusing the government of orchestrating unrest across the country through surveys of mosques. He urged the Supreme Court to take cognizance of such actions and demanded that strict action be taken against the judges issuing such orders, claiming that they were fueling communal tensions.
The violence in Sambhal on November 24 erupted after the survey of a mosque, resulting in firing and stone-pelting incidents. The violence led to the deaths of five people, with nearly 20 others, including police officers, injured. Following the incidents, the area was plunged into tension, prompting the authorities to deploy heavy police forces and closely monitor the situation to prevent further disturbances.
This unfortunate event has triggered a political debate and is expected to have ramifications in the ongoing discourse about communal harmony and law and order in the state.
