India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval held a significant meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister and Communist Party of China Politburo member Wang Yi on Wednesday. This marked the 23rd round of talks between the special representatives of India and China, focusing on finding solutions to the long-standing border dispute and fostering bilateral ties.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) highlighted that the meeting was held as part of decisions taken during the talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Kazan. Both leaders had previously agreed to maintain peace in border areas and seek amicable solutions to the ongoing border dispute.
During the discussions, both representatives emphasized the importance of maintaining the broader political perspective of India-China relations. They reiterated the need to resolve the border issue swiftly and agreed on expediting the ongoing process. The MEA further confirmed the reaffirmation of an agreement signed in October 2024, which governs patrolling and grazing activities in the disputed regions.
The talks also yielded positive developments on restarting the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, boosting border trade and cooperation, and sharing data on transboundary rivers. These steps reflect a commitment to strengthening ties and ensuring stability in border areas.
Ajit Doval also met Chinese Vice President Han Zheng, further emphasizing the importance of bilateral engagement. He extended an invitation to Wang Yi to visit India for the next round of talks, signaling India’s intent to continue the dialogue process actively.
The MEA described the meeting as a constructive step toward enhancing India-China relations and expediting the resolution of the border dispute, alongside fostering collaboration in other key areas.
