Ahmedabad, India – As the ICC World Cup 2023 set to commence with the opening match at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium, stringent security measures have been implemented throughout Ahmedabad to mitigate any potential security threats.
Following a threat issued by Khalistani separatists, a formidable police force comprising over 3,500 personnel and officers has been strategically deployed at Narendra Modi Stadium and various parts of Ahmedabad, specifically for the inaugural match between England and New Zealand on October 5.
Ahmedabad Commissioner of Police, Gyanender Singh Malik, stated, “The World Cup is commencing on October 5 with a match between New Zealand and England. The police have made all the necessary arrangements. A police force of more than 3,500, including three Additional Commissioners, 13 DCP rank officers, and 18 ACPs, will be deployed, alongside 500 home guards.”
To enhance safety measures, traffic police authorities have outlined a comprehensive traffic diversion plan, disseminating details on various social media platforms to ensure spectators are well-informed and can plan their journeys accordingly.
In addition to the substantial police force, authorities have taken proactive steps to counter potential threats. Nine bomb disposal squad teams and a quick response team are on standby at the stadium, ready to handle any exigencies should they arise.
While the primary focus remains on security, spectators have been urged to contribute to a peaceful and enjoyable event. They are advised to watch the match peacefully and avoid conflicts with fellow attendees. Furthermore, spectators are reminded that food and water bottles are prohibited inside the stadium, but they may carry their respective teams’ national flags, provided they do not have attached sticks.
Further, regarding the upcoming match, both teams face challenges due to key absences. New Zealand will miss the presence of Captain Kane Williamson and seasoned campaigner Tim Southee, while England’s star all-rounder Ben Stokes grapples with a hip issue, sidelining him from the clash against New Zealand. These notable absences could significantly influence the match’s outcome.
Moreover, as the cricketing world gears up for this eagerly awaited encounter, all eyes are on the Narendra Modi Stadium, where excitement is building for the start of the ICC World Cup 2023, however weather conditions will be closely monitored by teams and fans alike. Rain disruptions during earlier warm-up matches have raised concerns. The current weather forecast indicates hot and cloudless conditions, with temperatures hovering around 35 degrees Celsius.
