India achieved another milestone in 2024 as the Moidams of Assam were inscribed as the country’s 43rd UNESCO World Heritage Site. This elevated India’s global cultural relevance. Significant projects such as the redevelopment of Kurukshetra’s Anubhav Kendra and the restoration of Gujarat’s Kochrab Ashram further emphasized India’s dedication to celebrating its heritage.
Maritime Glory and Reclaiming Stolen Artifacts
UNESCO’s initiatives helped India reclaim 297 stolen artifacts, including treasures worth $10 million from the U.S., under a Cultural Property Agreement. Additionally, the construction of the National Maritime Heritage Complex in Lothal highlighted India’s ancient maritime legacy while creating over 22,000 jobs.
Celebrating India’s Vibrant Culture
The Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav in the Northeast and the Bodoland Mahotsav in Assam showcased India’s diverse cultural richness. In a historic tribute, Port Blair in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands was renamed Sri Vijaya Puram.

Tourism received a significant boost with projects like the Mahabodhi Temple Corridor and Vishnupad Temple Corridor, creating opportunities for rural and urban communities alike. With Khadi’s FY24 turnover surpassing ₹1.5 lakh crore and generating 10 lakh jobs, India’s cultural revival is also driving economic growth.
