An 85-year-old woman died after allegedly being raped in her home in Hafizganj, Uttar Pradesh, on Monday, police reported. The accused, identified as 35-year-old Rakesh, a neighbor, has been arrested.
Senior Superintendent of Police Anurag Arya stated that the victim lived alone after the deaths of her husband and son. Her brother, sister-in-law, and daughter-in-law reside nearby. According to the daughter-in-law, she discovered Rakesh assaulting her mother-in-law when she visited around 1 pm. Shocked, she raised an alarm, causing Rakesh to flee.
The family immediately contacted the police, but the elderly woman succumbed to her injuries. The police promptly arrived and apprehended Rakesh. SSP Arya revealed that the accused is an alcoholic and is currently being interrogated.
Authorities have formed a panel to conduct the post-mortem examination of the victim. This tragic incident has sparked outrage in the community, with calls for justice and stricter measures to protect vulnerable individuals.
