In a tragic incident in Maharashtra’s Solapur district, five women lost their lives and two others were severely injured when a speeding truck collided with them on Tuesday afternoon. The accident took place at Bandgarwadi village along the Pandharpur-Atpadi Road around 3:45 pm, according to police officials.
The victims, identified as farm workers, were waiting at a bus stop when the truck, moving at high speed, crashed into them, causing immediate fatalities. Upon hearing the women’s screams, locals rushed to the scene and promptly alerted the Sangola police station.
Unfortunately, five women succumbed to their injuries on the spot, while the two critically injured victims were rushed to a hospital in Pandharpur for urgent medical attention, as confirmed by the police.
The situation at the accident site quickly turned chaotic, with enraged locals apprehending the truck driver and delivering him to the authorities. The driver faced physical retribution from the crowd before police intervened and took control of the situation. The incident led to a significant disruption of traffic on the Pandharpur-Atpadi Road, which was later managed by personnel from Sangola police station.
According to reports, the truck driver sustained injuries during the confrontation with locals and was subsequently admitted to a hospital for treatment. Police officials have assured that a case will be registered against the driver for causing the tragic accident resulting in multiple fatalities and injuries.
