A 17-year-old named Harshit Sharma recently took to social media to express his gratitude for surviving a life-threatening surgery at AIIMS Delhi. Harshit Sharma, who had been suffering from kyphoscoliosis, a severe spinal disorder that causes a hunched back, underwent a complex surgery on October 25. He shared his emotional journey on Reddit, accompanied by a photo of himself in a hospital bed and his discharge summary from AIIMS to substantiate his account.

In his post, Harshit Sharma described the intense pain and struggles he faced after the procedure. “I was in the ICU for 2 days, and the doctors had to transfuse 9 units of blood,” he explained. The surgery was grueling, and Harshit Sharma was unable to eat for 10 days post-surgery. “I had 65+ stitches and was in such pain that even multiple painkiller injections couldn’t help,” he added. Additionally, Harshit Sharma mentioned that he faced a pre-surgery complication due to a hair removal process used on his back, which further exacerbated his discomfort. Despite all this, he expressed immense relief and gratitude for being alive, saying, “But I am so glad I am alive.”

Harshit Sharma took the opportunity to thank the people who had financially supported him and addressed those who doubted his situation. “This post is to thank the people who contributed their hard-earned money for me and to address those who doubted me,” he said, attaching his discharge summary to the post for transparency. However, he also shared his continued financial struggles, explaining that although he had raised some funds earlier, it still wasn’t enough to cover his expenses. “This is me asking for money one last time, as I couldn’t raise even half the money needed, and my financial condition is not looking very good due to the numerous expenses even after the surgery,” Harshit said.

Harshit Sharma has been battling Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 2 (SMA II) and severe scoliosis for the past 17 years. Despite the immense pain and difficulties caused by his condition, Harshit Sharma remains determined to continue his education and pursue his dreams. His story has garnered more than 900 upvotes on Reddit, with many users expressing support and offering donations. Some even shared resources and organizations that could potentially help fund surgeries for people in similar situations. Harshit Sharma’s journey is a testament to the strength and resilience of young people facing life-threatening conditions, and his plea for help highlights the financial challenges many face in accessing critical medical care.
