An 11-year-old boy tragically drowned in a swimming pool situated in outer-north Delhi’s Alipur area, reportedly operated by the wives of two police officers. The incident occurred on May 14, prompting family members to express suspicions of foul play and subsequently stage a protest outside the Alipur Police Station on Wednesday.
Authorities have initiated investigations into the matter. While initial findings have not indicated any foul play, the investigations remain ongoing. Deputy Commissioner of Police (outer-north) Ravi Singh stated that a case under section 304A (death by negligence) has been registered.
According to reports, the incident unfolded while the boy, accompanied by his father and other teenagers, was swimming in the pool. At some point, the boy’s father left to attend to an urgent phone call. Upon returning, he discovered his son motionless in the deep end of the pool. Despite immediate efforts to revive him, the boy was pronounced dead upon arrival at a nearby hospital.
Family members of the victim have voiced concerns and held protests, alleging suspicious circumstances surrounding the boy’s death. However, authorities have not found any evidence of foul play during the initial stages of the investigation. Nevertheless, it has been revealed that the swimming pool was operating in an unauthorized manner.
Further scrutiny has revealed that the pool was being managed as a joint venture by the spouses of an assistant commissioner of police (ACP) and a sub-inspector (SI) of the Delhi Police. Investigations continue to delve into the details surrounding this tragic incident.
