In a tragic incident at Ahmedabad’s Odhav Nagar Industrial Area on Monday, a blast at a powder coating firm claimed the lives of two individuals and left three others injured.
The deceased have been identified as Rameshbhai Patel (50), the owner of the firm, and Pawan Kumar (25), a worker. According to initial reports, the blast originated from a compressor located near an LPG gas cylinder, resulting in a powerful explosion.
Fire department officials swiftly responded to the scene upon receiving the distress call. The bodies of the deceased have been transferred to the nearby civil hospital for post-mortem examinations, while the injured are receiving treatment at the nearest Arogya Kendra.
SS Gadhavi, the Nikol Fire Station Officer, provided details about the incident, stating, “The blast occurred at Bansi Powder Coating firm during hot processing for powder coating. The explosion was triggered by pressure buildup in the oven. Two casualties have been reported, and three individuals sustained injuries.”
Regarding fire safety measures in the industrial area, Officer Gadhavi mentioned, “There is no provision of Fire NOC in this area,” referring to the Fire No Objection Certificate required for compliance with National Building Code norms.
An investigation led by the fire department and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) is currently underway to determine the exact cause of the blast and ensure comprehensive safety measures in the industrial zone.
