In a recent turn of events, Zomato, the food delivery giant, faced significant backlash for its introduction of a “Pure Veg Mode” service, which included segregating its delivery fleet based on dietary preferences. CEO Announces Rollback Amidst Growing Concerns

Deepinder Goyal, CEO of Zomato, took to the social media platform X to announce the rollback of the green uniforms designated for its vegetarian delivery fleet. This decision came after careful consideration of the concerns raised by customers and stakeholders, highlighting the company’s commitment to transparency and responsiveness to public feedback.

Maintaining a Vegetarian Fleet Without Segregation

Despite retracting the “Pure Veg Mode” and its associated green uniforms, Zomato has affirmed its dedication to serving its vegetarian customers effectively. The company will continue to maintain a vegetarian fleet, albeit without any on-ground segregation through uniform color. This move seeks to balance the company’s service offerings while addressing the concerns raised by the public.

Red Uniforms for a Unified Identity

In a bid to ensure inclusivity and avoid any potential stigmatization of vegetarian food preferences, Zomato has decided that all its riders, including those in the vegetarian fleet, will now don red uniforms. This decision marks a significant shift towards unifying the appearance of Zomato’s delivery personnel, reinforcing a uniform identity across its fleet.

Aiming for Inclusivity and Avoiding Stigmatization

The introduction and subsequent withdrawal of the “Pure Veg Mode” service by Zomato have sparked a broader conversation about inclusivity and the potential stigmatization of dietary preferences in the food delivery industry. By opting for a uniform appearance for its delivery fleet, Zomato aims to bridge the divide and ensure that all customers, regardless of their dietary preferences, feel equally valued and respected.
