Netflix and Shondaland have announced the casting of Yerin Ha as the new leading lady in Season 4 of their acclaimed romantic series, ‘Bridgerton.’ The Korean-Australian actress will portray Sophie Beckett, known as ‘Lady in Silver,’ a character from Julia Quinn’s novel, ‘An Offer From a Gentleman,’ which serves as the basis for the upcoming season.
Variety first reported the news, confirming that Ha will be introduced into the ‘Bridgerton’ universe as the Cinderella-inspired heroine. Although an official statement from the showrunners and Netflix is still pending, the casting choice has already generated significant excitement among fans of the series.
Yerin Ha, who is relatively new to regency-era dramas, has garnered recognition for her roles in various popular TV shows and films. She is best known for her portrayal of Kwan Ha in the Paramount+ science fiction series ‘Halo,’ adapted from the iconic video game franchise. This show, which aired from 2022 to 2024, spanned 17 episodes. Ha also appeared in the 2022 horror film ‘Sissy,’ and has made notable contributions to other projects such as the 2019 crime drama ‘Reef Break,’ and the TV shows ‘Troppo’ and ‘Bad Behaviour.’
In addition to her role in ‘Bridgerton,’ Ha has several other projects lined up. She will feature in the 2025 miniseries ‘The Survivors’ alongside Ian Bliss, known for ‘Late Night with the Devil.’ Another highly anticipated project is ‘Dune: Prophecy,’ a sci-fi spinoff set for release in November, where Ha will play the character Young Kasha.
Ha’s involvement in ‘Bridgerton’ represents a significant milestone in her career. In a 2019 interview with Australian Vogue, she expressed her ambition to take on a major romantic lead role and emphasized the need for greater representation of South East Asians in mainstream media. “Hopefully there’s a time when we can actually see [people of multiple backgrounds] playing the girlfriend, the romantic lead,” she stated, highlighting her desire for more diversity on screen.
Yerin Ha comes from a celebrated acting family in Korea, with her grandmother, Son Sook, being a renowned actor in South Korea. Ha’s passion for acting and her family’s legacy has been a driving force in her career.
In ‘Bridgerton’ Season 4, Ha will play Sophie Beckett, the illegitimate daughter of an earl and a maid, who is mistreated by her stepmother and sisters. Her fortunes change when she meets Benedict Bridgerton at a Bridgerton-hosted masquerade ball. Whether the series will make alterations to Quinn’s original storyline remains to be seen. Interestingly, Ha does not currently maintain a presence on social media platforms, adding an air of mystery to her burgeoning career.
