Yash Dayal’s father, Chandrapal Dayal, expressed immense pride and admiration for his son following Yash’s selection for the Indian cricket team for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh. Yash Dayal has been named in the 16-member squad for the first Test, scheduled to begin on September 19 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Chandrapal, who himself is a former cricketer, reflected on the arduous journey his son has endured to achieve this milestone. “It is a matter of pride for our family,” Chandrapal told ANI. “When a kid starts playing, he dreams of representing the country. Now, he has earned a call-up to represent the nation. From a small city, he has come so far. There were many tough challenges in his life, but he kept fighting. He was always obsessed with cricket. When your focus is right, you will get success.” He commended Yash’s resilience and fighting spirit throughout his career.
Chandrapal also praised Yash’s performance in various cricket tournaments, including the Ranji Trophy and the Indian Premier League (IPL). Despite not securing a spot for Uttar Pradesh in the Under-19 team, Yash’s talent shone through when he was selected for the Under-23 team in 2018. Since then, he has steadily progressed, making significant contributions in domestic cricket and the IPL.
Yash’s mother, Radha Dayal, was equally overjoyed by the news of her son’s selection. She described the family’s excitement and the celebrations that followed. “It is a matter of happiness for us. This is a big deal for us. We are celebrating it all together. All family members have gathered and will be bursting firecrackers. We cannot express our happiness in words. This all took a lot of hard work. We kept motivating him and gave him positivity to go on no matter what,” Radha said.
Yash Dayal’s cricketing journey has been marked by highs and lows. His IPL debut with Gujarat in 2022 was promising, with 11 wickets from nine matches. However, his performance took a hit in the 2023 season when KKR’s Rinku Singh hit him for five consecutive sixes, leading to a period of severe depression. Despite these challenges, Yash Dayal made a strong comeback in the 2024 IPL season, picking up 15 wickets for RCB and playing a key role in their playoff qualification.
In addition to his IPL success, Yash Dayal performed well in the Duleep Trophy, taking 4/89 in the first game of the ongoing tournament. His first-class career includes 76 wickets from 24 matches, with a notable five-wicket haul. As he awaits his Test debut against Bangladesh, cricket fans and selectors are keenly watching to see how the young pacer fares alongside seasoned pros like Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj.
