The purpose of the advanced course is to equip policy analysts and researchers from developing economies and least-developed countries with practical skills and tools for analysing trade policies, allowing them to connect with experts in the field.
The training activity is based on “A Practical Guide to Trade Policy Analysis“, “An Advanced Guide to Trade Policy Analysis” and “A Practical Guide to the Economic Analysis of Non-Tariff Measures“. It will offer participants the opportunity to learn about various data sources relevant to trade and trade policy analysis. Participants will also familiarize themselves with different methodologies, including computing trade flows and trade policy indicators, as well as accurately estimating the gravity model of trade. The course will strike a balance between theoretical lectures and practical applications, where participants will engage in hands-on problem-solving using Stata software.

Who should apply?
The training activity is targeted at government officials from WTO members and observers eligible to benefit from WTO training activities. The course is specifically designed for individuals who are directly involved in economic or econometric analysis of trade policy as well as those involved in the formulation and implementation of trade policy. Researchers and academics specialized in studying, researching and teaching topics related to trade and trade policy are also encouraged to apply.
Candidates must hold a master’s degree or a PhD in economics or a related field, possess basic knowledge of econometric techniques, be familiar with Stata software or similar software, and have completed a WTO training activity or have equivalent professional experience. Fluency in English, both oral and written, is also required.
