In an incident, a 38-year-old woman was apprehended by Delhi police for attempting to rob her neighbor while disguised as a courier agent. The woman, identified as Rekha, had previously worked in the Civil Defence department but was currently unemployed.
Upon receiving a complaint on May 23 about an attempted robbery, the police swung into action. The victim narrated that the assailant, posing as a courier agent, had entered her home under the pretense of delivering a package. However, once inside, the attacker assaulted her with a toy gun, causing injuries.
After analyzing CCTV footage and conducting a thorough investigation, the police traced Rekha to a vacant house in Somesh Vihar. During interrogation, Rekha confessed to the crime, revealing that financial distress had driven her to plan the robbery.
Rekha’s modus operandi involved disguising herself, wielding a toy gun, and attacking her neighbor, Chandra Kanta, intending to steal money and jewelry. However, her plan was thwarted when the victim raised an alarm, prompting Rekha to flee the scene.
In a bid to evade capture, Rekha changed her disguise and hid the incriminating items before returning home. She later mingled with the crowd to gather information about the incident, hoping to deflect suspicion.
Rekha’s arrest sheds light on the desperate measures individuals may resort to in times of financial hardship, underscoring the importance of community vigilance and swift police action in maintaining public safety.
