A tragic incident unfolded in Mumbai’s Worli on Sunday, where a speeding BMW, allegedly driven by Mihir Shah, son of Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah, struck a two-wheeler, resulting in the death of 45-year-old Kaveri Nakhva and injuries to her husband, Pradip Nakhva. The couple, fish sellers, were returning from Sassoon Dock when their scooter was hit from behind. The impact flung them onto the car’s bonnet, with Pradip managing to jump off while Kaveri was dragged for 100 meters. She succumbed to her injuries on the way to the hospital.
Mihir Shah, 24, who was reportedly intoxicated at the time of the accident, has been on the run since the incident. The night before the crash, Mihir had been drinking in Juhu and later requested his driver, Rajendra Singh Bijawat, to take him on a long drive. Upon reaching Worli, Mihir took over the driving, leading to the fatal accident around 5:30 am.
In an attempt to cover up his involvement, Mihir allegedly tried to remove a Shiv Sena sticker and the car’s number plate before abandoning the vehicle in Bandra Kalanagar and fleeing the scene. He then contacted his father and switched off his phone. Police suspect Mihir’s girlfriend may have helped him evade capture.
Rajesh Shah and Rajendra Singh Bijawat were arrested for not cooperating with the investigation and are set to appear in court today. The BMW was registered in Rajesh Shah’s name. Worli police have filed charges against Mihir for rash driving, culpable homicide not amounting to murder, and endangering life, along with violations of the Motor Vehicles Act. Six police teams are actively searching for Mihir.
