In a press briefing, White House National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby praised India’s vibrant democracy, emphasizing the significance of the ongoing elections where over 969 million people are exercising their franchise. Kirby highlighted the importance of citizens’ participation in shaping their government’s future.
Kirby acknowledged the strengthening relationship between India and the United States under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, particularly during the Biden administration’s tenure. He noted various initiatives launched during state visits, collaborations on emerging technologies, and efforts to bolster the Indo-Pacific quad, of which India is a key member.
Describing the India-US partnership as vibrant and active, Kirby expressed gratitude for Prime Minister Modi’s leadership.
Responding to queries about President Joe Biden’s views on India and Japan being xenophobic, Kirby clarified that the president’s recent remarks were aimed at highlighting the inclusivity and participatory nature of democracy in the United States.
