The landslide, which struck Chooralmala and Mundakkai on July 30, resulted in the tragic loss of over 300 lives and inflicted significant damage on the area. The Indian Army, alongside the Indian Air Force and state authorities, engaged in an intensive rescue mission, demonstrating remarkable bravery and dedication in the face of adversity.
As the soldiers and their canine companions prepared to leave Wayanad, the local community gathered to express their heartfelt thanks. The atmosphere was charged with patriotic fervor as residents chanted ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ and ‘Indian Army ki Jai,’ celebrating the heroic efforts of the rescuers.
The Kochi Defence Public Relations Officer (PRO) conveyed deep appreciation for the soldiers’ courage and selflessness, stating, “We are deeply grateful to our brave heroes who risked everything during the landslide rescue operations. Your courage and sacrifice won’t be forgotten.”
In a related development, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan addressed the press, outlining the state’s commitment to world-class rehabilitation efforts in the affected areas. He emphasized the government’s goal of creating a resettlement model that would serve as a benchmark for the nation and the world, ensuring a comprehensive and exemplary recovery process.
