  • Police unable to locate Uthappa after PF warrant issued.
  • Provident Fund mismanagement allegations cast shadow over Uthappa's legacy.

Former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa is facing legal trouble after an arrest warrant was issued against him in connection with a Provident Fund (PF) case. The warrant was issued by the PF Regional Commissioner, Shadakshari Gopal Reddy, following allegations that Uthappa, while managing a lifestyle brand, had deducted PF contributions from his employees’ salaries but failed to deposit the funds into their respective PF accounts. The total amount involved in the case is approximately ₹23 lakh.

On December 4, Commissioner Reddy instructed the police to take immediate action and arrest Uthappa. However, the police were unable to execute the arrest because the warrant was returned, as Uthappa reportedly changed his address. Authorities are currently working to locate his new residence. According to regulations, any company that deducts PF contributions from its employees’ salaries is legally obligated to deposit these funds into the employees’ PF accounts. Failing to do so is considered a violation of the law and misuse of funds, and Uthappa is accused of such misconduct.

Uthappa is well known for his cricketing career, having represented India in various formats, as well as playing for franchises like Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL). After retiring from international cricket in September 2022, Uthappa transitioned to playing in retired players’ leagues. He recently participated in the Hong Kong Sixes tournament, where he impressed with his batting skills. Throughout his international career, Uthappa played 48 One Day International (ODI) matches, scoring 934 runs at a strike rate of 90.59. He also represented India in 13 T20 internationals, scoring 249 runs, with one half-century in both formats.

The former cricketer’s alleged involvement in the PF mismanagement case has come as a shock, especially given his successful sports career. His legal troubles have now become a focal point, overshadowing his post-retirement activities. With the police still struggling to locate his whereabouts, the situation remains unresolved. Authorities are determined to trace his new address in order to execute the arrest and address the allegations against him. Robin Uthappa’s legal issues stand in stark contrast to his once celebrated cricketing career, drawing significant attention in both the sports and legal spheres.
