Amidst ongoing protests by truckers in the Shajapur district of Madhya Pradesh, a video has emerged on social media, capturing a contentious remark made by District Collector Kishor Kanyal during a meeting with representatives of a drivers’ union. The video has ignited controversy and raised questions about the official’s choice of words.
In the video clip, Collector Kanyal can be heard questioning the “aukat” (status) of a driver during a discussions amidst the ongoing protest. The collector’s temper flared during the meeting, where he urged drivers and others not to resort to vigilantism. In response to the driver’s statement on talk nicely, Kanyal asked, “Kya Karoge Tum, Kya Aukat Hai Tumhari?” (What will you do? What is your status?). The driver responded, stating that they are engaged in this struggle precisely because they lack social standing. Subsequently, a policeman removed the individual from the scene.
Following the incident, Collector Kanyal posted a video to clarify his position. He explained that the meeting, attended by approximately 250 truck and bus drivers, had been convened to encourage them to raise their concerns through democratic means. However, one participant had attempted to incite others and threatened to escalate the protests, leading to his use of the controversial words.
“In the meeting held with the drivers and their organizations, when a person repeatedly asked about going to any level after January 3, Collector Shri Kishore Kanyal said something in a harsh tone to pacify him. It was not said with the intention of hurting,” the Collector said.
However, he further expressed regret if his choice of words had offended anyone but emphasized that nobody would be allowed to take the law into their own hands.
“It is our responsibility to protect the public and we will not allow a law and order situation to arise under any circumstances. We will take strict action against those who break the law,” he added.
