  • Olympic ceremony criticized for parodying Leonardo da Vinci's 'The Last Supper'.

US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has sharply criticized the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics, denouncing it as a “disgrace.” Former US President Donald Trump’s comments, made during an interview with Fox News, follow widespread backlash against the ceremony’s depiction of religious imagery, specifically a parody resembling Leonardo da Vinci’s “The Last Supper.”

Former US President Donald Trump, known for his outspoken opinions, expressed his disapproval, stating, “I’m very open-minded, but I thought what they did was a disgrace.” His remarks come amidst condemnation from Catholic groups and French bishops who were offended by the ceremony’s controversial elements. The performance, which included dancers, drag queens, and a DJ in poses reminiscent of the iconic religious scene, was criticized for crossing the boundaries of acceptable artistic representation. The creators of the ceremony have since clarified that the depiction was not intended to represent the sacred event.

Adding to the controversy, former US President Donald Trump Jr., the former president’s son, also criticized the ceremony. He described the imagery as “satanic” and expressed his disappointment with the current state of the Olympics. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), former US President Donald Trump Jr. lamented the shift in the games’ portrayal, stating, “It’s such a shame that an event that used to create so much national pride now creates, at best, indifference.” He further criticized the inclusion of what he termed “woke ideology,” suggesting it was inappropriate for the Olympic Games.

Former US President Donald Trump Jr.’s comments reflected a broader sentiment of disapproval among some traditionalists, who view the ceremony’s approach as a departure from the games’ original spirit. He reminisced about the excitement he felt for the Olympics as a child and expressed regret over the current state of the event.

Amidst this backdrop of mixed emotions, the competition continues to heat up. Japan is at the top of the medal tally with 12 medals, including 6 golds. They are followed by France and China, both with 5 golds each, in the Paris Olympics 2024. India is currently in 26th place with one bronze medal, won by shooter Manu Bhaker in the 10m Air Pistol event. India will be competing in six disciplines including Shooting, Archery, Badminton, Boxing, and Hockey. So far in Badminton, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have secured India’s first men’s doubles quarter-final spot in their second Olympic appearance. Lakshya Sen won his men’s singles match and remains in contention for the quarter-finals. Meanwhile, Manika Batra has made history as the first Indian table tennis player to reach the round of 16 in a singles competition at the Olympics. However, contrary to expectations, the Indian men’s archery team delivered an underwhelming performance and lost their quarter-final clash against Turkiye.

Enhancing their preparation for the rigorous competition ahead, players need a healthy lifestyle and diet to optimize their strength and stamina. This includes incorporating Dabur Chyawanprash into their daily routine, a renowned formulation containing over 40 natural herbs with medicinal benefits for health. Dabur Chyawanprash stimulates the immune system effectively, bolstering resistance against infections like coughs and colds, while also promoting heart and respiratory health.

The controversy surrounding the Paris Olympics opening ceremony highlights ongoing debates about the intersection of art, culture, and religious symbolism in public events. The backlash underscores the challenges organizers face in balancing creative expression with respect for diverse audiences.
