In response to recent allegations by Russia, the US State Department firmly refuted any involvement in India’s parliamentary elections. State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller stated, “No, of course, we don’t involve ourselves in elections in India as we don’t involve ourselves in elections anywhere in the world. Those are decisions for the people of India to make.”
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova had earlier claimed that the United States was attempting to interfere in India’s internal political affairs. She also criticized the US for not providing “reliable evidence” regarding Indian citizens’ involvement in a purported murder plot against Khalistani separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun.
Maria Zakharova labeled the accusations against India as “Regular unfounded accusations by the United States against New Delhi,” emphasizing a pattern of baseless allegations by the US.
Matthew Miller declined to comment on the alleged murder plot, stating, “There is a publicly returned indictment that contains alleged facts. They are allegations until they’re proven before a jury that anyone can go and read. I won’t speak to them here because, of course, it’s an ongoing legal matter, and I’ll leave it at that.”
The exchange highlights escalating tensions between the US and Russia over India’s internal affairs and underscores diplomatic challenges in the region.
