  • India refutes claims, conducts probe into alleged murder plot.

The United States is patiently awaiting the outcome of India’s ongoing investigations regarding the alleged conspiracy to assassinate Khalistani figure Gurpatwant Singh Pannun on American soil. Matthew Miller, spokesperson for the State Department, underscored the importance of India’s inquiry during a routine press briefing, stating, “They (the Indian government) opened a committee of inquiry to look into the matter, and that work is ongoing, we’ll wait to see the results. But we made it very clear that it’s something that we are taking seriously and we think they, too, should take this seriously.”

Responding to queries on the matter, Matthew Miller emphasized the gravity of the allegations involving Indian government officials purportedly implicated in the plot against Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a US citizen and a Sikh separatist leader. Regarding specifics of the investigation, he directed attention to Canadian authorities for details and deferred elaboration on the US indictment to the Department of Justice.

Furthermore, Matthew Miller reiterated the stance of the State Department, stressing the necessity for India to thoroughly investigate the allegations. He highlighted the department’s prompt response upon the initial public disclosure of the accusations, emphasizing the gravity of the matter.

Recent reports by The Washington Post implicating a Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) officer in connection with the alleged plot have drawn significant attention. In response, India has vehemently refuted the claims, denouncing them as “unwarranted and unsubstantiated.” External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal rebuffed the report, affirming ongoing investigations into the case and the formation of a high-level inquiry committee to scrutinize inputs provided by the US.

As India continues its probe into the matter, the United States maintains a vigilant stance, awaiting the conclusive results of the investigations regarding the alleged Gurpatwant Singh Pannun murder plot.
