After the BJP alliance’s victory in 7 out of 9 seats in the recent bypolls, talks of a cabinet reshuffle in Uttar Pradesh have intensified. While several legislators are actively working to secure a ministerial position, the coalition partners are also preparing to stake their claim for a larger share in the cabinet. The reshuffle is expected to take place after the Delhi Assembly elections. According to sources, a significant overhaul is in the works, which could see several cabinet and state ministers being replaced.
Speculation about a reshuffle had started even before the bypolls, but various factors delayed the process. With the completion of the bypolls, the government and party have now shifted focus to Mission 2027, and it is expected that the cabinet reshuffle will not be postponed for much longer. A meeting is reportedly being planned in Delhi to finalize the details of the reshuffle, and the roadmap for the expansion will soon be determined.
The reshuffle is likely to focus on addressing the challenges faced by the BJP in the previous general elections, especially the fragmentation of Dalit and OBC votes, which had resulted in significant losses. In an effort to recover from this, the government and the organization worked hard during the bypolls, and their efforts have yielded positive results. As a result, the upcoming reshuffle may include leaders from the OBC and Dalit communities to strengthen the party’s appeal among these crucial voter segments.
Sources indicate that the BJP may reward one or two of the winning legislators from the bypolls, especially those from constituencies that the party had not won in decades, by offering them ministerial positions. On the other hand, some long-serving ministers who failed to deliver strong results may be removed from their posts. The performance of several ministers is currently under evaluation, and some may be replaced with leaders who demonstrated strong organizational work, particularly in the bypoll strategies.
Nishad Party President Sanjay Nishad, who was excluded from the cabinet despite his party’s participation in the bypolls, is reportedly seeking another position in the reshuffled cabinet. Similarly, RLD, which won the Meerapur seat, may also exert pressure for a cabinet post. Therefore, a substantial reshuffle in the Uttar Pradesh cabinet seems likely, with several new faces and key political calculations shaping the upcoming appointments.
