Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky declared on Tuesday that Ukraine now controls 74 settlements in Russia’s Kursk border region, a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict. This statement marks a notable increase from the 28 settlements reported by the Kursk region governor just a day earlier.
In an evening address, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky highlighted the progress made despite “difficult, intense fighting” and emphasized that the advance of Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region is ongoing. The president shared footage of a video call with Ukrainian military chief Oleksandr Syrsky, who provided an update on the situation.
Syrsky reported that Ukrainian troops have advanced between 1 to 3 kilometers in some areas. Over the past day, Ukraine has reportedly seized more than 40 square kilometers of territory. This brings the total area controlled by Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region to approximately 1,000 square kilometers.
The recent developments in the Kursk region reflect Ukraine’s continued efforts to consolidate control in contested areas and respond to the evolving dynamics of the conflict with Russia.
