Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to travel to the United States for a three-day visit next weekend to attend the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (Quad) leadership summit, which will be hosted by President Joe Biden at his residence in Wilmington, Delaware. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to arrive in the US on September 21, the day the summit is to be held.
This summit marks the fourth in-person meeting of the Quad leaders, with President Joe Biden welcoming the heads of government from India, Australia, and Japan. The gathering will also see the participation of Australia’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Japan’s Prime Minister Kishida Fumio. This summit is particularly significant as it will be President Biden’s first time hosting foreign leaders in Wilmington since he assumed office, highlighting his personal connections with the Quad leaders and the strategic importance of the Quad alliance.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre emphasized the significance of the summit, stating that it will focus on enhancing strategic cooperation among the Quad countries. The agenda includes advancing a shared vision for a free and open Indo-Pacific region and addressing critical issues such as health security, natural disaster response, maritime security, infrastructure, emerging technologies, climate and clean energy, and cybersecurity. Jean-Pierre noted that the summit will build on the eight meetings held by Quad Foreign Ministers in recent years and reinforce the ongoing coordination among the member nations.
The Quad was formally established in November 2017 by India, Japan, the US, and Australia with the objective of maintaining open sea routes in the Indo-Pacific region. In addition to participating in the Quad summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will engage in bilateral discussions with the leaders of the partner countries and will attend an Indian community event in New Jersey on September 22. Furthermore, he will take part in the Summit of the Future on September 23, which aims to produce a comprehensive, action-oriented Pact for the Future covering sustainable development, international peace and security, technological innovation, and global governance.
This visit underscores the deepening strategic ties among the Quad nations and reflects the increasing focus on addressing global challenges through collaborative efforts.
