India’s economy is growing fast, and 169 Indians are now on Forbes’ 2023 Billionaires list, up from 166. Mukesh Ambani leads as the richest, with others like Gautam Adani and Uday Kotak also on the list. This article shares the top 10 richest people in India from Forbes’ Real-Time Billionaires rankings, tracking billionaires worldwide. It highlights India’s increasing presence in the global billionaire community.

1. Mukesh Ambani

Mukesh Ambani, head of Reliance Industries, is India’s richest person. His company, with $104 billion in sales, works in many areas. His three kids help run the business.

 

2. Gautam Adani

Gautam Adani, an Indian billionaire, leads the Adani Group, a big company working in ports, airports, power, and green energy. Started in 1996, his company runs India’s biggest airport and Gujarat’s largest port, Mundra. His wife, Priti, heads the Adani Foundation.

 

3. Shiv Nadar

Shiv Nadar owns HCL, working with big companies like Cisco. In 2008, he got India’s third-highest civilian award for his IT work. He’s also known for giving a lot to charity, donating Rs 1,161 crore in 2022.

 

4. Savitri Jindal & family

Savitri Jindal, an Indian politician and businesswoman, leads the O.P. Jindal Group. Her four sons manage its different areas. JSW Sports, part of their business, aims to boost sports in India. She’s the richest woman in India, with her company working in many countries.

 

5. Cyrus Poonawalla

Cyrus Poonawalla owns Serum Institute of India, the world’s biggest vaccine maker, based in Pune. His wealth grew due to high sales of Covid-19 vaccines. His son Adar helps run the company.

 

6. Dilip Shanghvi

Dilip Shanghvi is a famous Indian businessman who created Sun Pharmaceutical Industries, India’s first pharma company worth $5 billion. He expanded Sun by buying other companies, including Ranbaxy Laboratories for $4 billion in 2014, which was his biggest purchase.

 

7. Kumar Birla

Kumar Birla leads the Aditya Birla Group, known for commodities, aluminium, cement, and finance. He was Vodafone Idea’s chairman but stepped down in 2021. Now, he’s a non-executive director. In 2023, his children Ananya and Aryaman joined the company board, bringing new ideas and energy.

 

8. Radhakishan Damani

Radhakishan Damani, an Indian businessman, founded Avenue Supermarts Limited, managing over 200 DMart stores in India. He also oversees his investments through Bright Star Investments Limited, showing his significant role in the business and investment sectors.

 

9. Lakshmi Mittal

Lakshmi Mittal, head of the world’s largest steel company ArcelorMittal, bought Essar Steel with Nippon Steel in 2019. In 2021, his son Aditya became CEO. Due to Russia’s attack on Ukraine, they stopped work at their Ukraine steel plant.

 

10. Kushal Pal Singh

Kushal Pal Singh, an army veteran, leads DLF, India’s largest real estate firm. He joined DLF, his father-in-law’s company, in 1961 and has been its chairman for over 50 years. He’s known for his long-standing leadership in the property sector.
