Narendra Modi has been sworn in as the Prime Minister of the country for the third time, and the cabinet announcement has also been made. This time, JP Nadda has been included in the cabinet and has been given the Health Ministry. Previously, JP Nadda was the BJP President. So, the question now arises: who will be the BJP President this time? There are three contenders for the BJP President position. First up is Sunil Bansal…
Sunil Bansal worked as the state general secretary after leading BJP to victory in Uttar Pradesh. Besides, Sunil Bansal is a former RSS pracharak from Rajasthan, known for his association with Amit Shah and his support within the RSS. He played a crucial role in BJP’s successes in the 2014 and 2017 UP elections and the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Recently, Bansal has managed all centers in West Bengal, Odisha, and Telangana, and has worked extensively at the national level during BJP’s 2024 Lok Sabha campaigns. Therefore, he could be given this position.
Second is Vinod Tawde, who also worked significantly for BJP in Bihar during this Lok Sabha election and was seen in many rallies. Given Tawde’s strong connection with ABVP and his work as a minister in Maharashtra, he is also considered a strong contender for the president position.
Third is former Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. Om Birla has also been associated with RSS and ABVP. This time, he has been re-elected from the Kota constituency, a seat he has held since 2014. Speculations are that he might be made the Speaker again. If that does not happen, he might be given the BJP President’s chair.
Additionally, Anurag Thakur, an MP from the Hamirpur seat in Himachal Pradesh, might also sit on the BJP President’s chair. This time, Anurag Thakur has been kept out of Modi’s cabinet, and there are speculations that he might be given an important role within the BJP organization. With the BJP Presidential election coming up, it is possible that another leader from Himachal Pradesh, after JP Nadda, could be made the BJP President.
Given BJP’s history of surprises, the party might also select a less popular face for the president position, as seen in the past with Vishnu Deo Sai in Chhattisgarh, Mohan Yadav in Madhya Pradesh, and Bhajan Lal Sharma in Rajasthan for Chief Minister positions.
