In a significant development in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district, an unidentified terrorist was killed and an Indian soldier injured during an overnight encounter, the Indian Army reported on Wednesday. The anti-terror operation was initiated by security forces in the Lolab area of Kupwara, based on specific intelligence about the presence of terrorists in the general area of Kowut.
The Indian Army, in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, launched a joint search operation leading up to July 23. On July 24, suspicious movement was detected and challenged by vigilant troops, prompting the terrorists to open indiscriminate fire. In the ensuing firefight, one terrorist was eliminated, and a non-commissioned officer (NCO) was injured. The operation is still ongoing, according to a post by the Indian Army’s Chinar Corps on X.
This encounter is part of a broader pattern of intensified anti-terror operations in the region. Last week, security forces successfully foiled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district, neutralizing at least two terrorists. This operation was launched based on intelligence inputs indicating the terrorists’ attempts to infiltrate into the valley via the LoC in the Keran sector of north Kashmir.
Alert security forces noticed the terrorists’ movements and challenged them, leading to an exchange of fire in which two terrorists were killed. These operations underscore the ongoing efforts by Indian security forces to combat terrorism and maintain security in the region. The situation remains tense as operations continue, reflecting the persistent threat posed by terrorist activities along the LoC and within the Kashmir Valley.
